Do you have cardiovascular disease?

We are seeking participants at risk of cardiovascular diseases to join a clinical study. The study aims to determine if the investigational medication can lower LDL cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in those with existing cardiovascular disease or at high risk for a first event. Elevated LDL-C is a known risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.

The study will last up to approximately 4,5 years, with regular health check-ups conducted by a team of doctors, nurses, and lab technicians.

You may qualify for the study if you:

Have elevated cholesterol

And meet one or more of the following criteria:

Experienced a heart attack or stroke in the past year
Have had a balloon angioplasty or stent placement
Have atherosclerosis or arterial narrowing
Have diabetes
Have reduced kidney function
Are a smoker

There will be no costs associated with participating in the study, and you will receive compensation for time and travel. You will receive $150 for each of the two screenings, and subsequently, $100 for each clinic visit.

What is LDL-C?

What is LDL-C?

LDL-C, or Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol, is often referred to as 'bad' cholesterol because it can lead to the buildup of cholesterol in the arteries. This occurs when LDL-C transports cholesterol from the liver to the body's cells, and there is too much of it in the blood. The buildup can form plaque in the arterial walls, increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and strokes. To maintain a healthy cardiovascular system, it is important to keep LDL-C levels within healthy limits through a balanced diet, exercise, and possibly medical treatment.

What is a clinical research study?

What is a clinical research study?

A clinical research study is a medical trial in which volunteers participate in the testing of medications. Here, researchers investigate the safety and efficacy of medicines or medical devices.

Why are clinical research studies important?

Why are clinical research studies important?

All medical drugs must be tested in clinical research studies before they can be approved for use and before doctors can dispense the drugs to patients. Without people participating in these clinical research studies, no new medicine could ever be developed.

What do the phases of clinical research studies mean?

What do the phases of clinical research studies mean?

Clinical research studies are carried out in different phases. These phases deal with different target groups and durations for the research studies, and you can read more about them here:

Phase 1 clinical research studies: Researchers test an investigational treatment in a small group (often healthy) of people for the first time to assess its safety and identify side effects.

Phase 2 and 3 clinical research studies: The investigational treatment is given to a larger group of people (often patients) to determine its efficacy and further evaluate its safety.

Phase 4 clinical research studies: This involves the use of already approved medications in daily life by a large group of patients for an extended period. This provides more information about the benefits and risks of the medication.
